Abha Dearing has been teaching flute and voice privately for 14 years. Her training includes the following: Bachelor of Music Education from Wayne State University, studies in Indian Classical Music at the Ali Akbar College of Music in San Rafael, California, private flute lessons with Detroit Symphony members Clem Barone, Jeff Zook, and Ervin Monroe, and private voice lessons with Laxmi Shankar and Janice Albright (under whom she is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Voice Performance at Oakland University). Currently Abha is the music director at Mercy High School, and she is the choir director at Birmingham Unitarian Church. Many of Abha's student have won various scholarships and awards including First Division ratings at Michigan's District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals, the Verdi Opera Competition, and the Farmington Musicale Scholarship Competition.
